Just One Ball Shawl

Hello everyone, after I finished my Dragon Tail shawl, one Bernat Pop Ball was left from the parcel I received. Loving the speedy work and what came out of it, I've decided to start another project right away.

I had this idea in my mind for a while, why not take the two ends of the Bernat Pop Ball yarn, work them together in alternate stripes, and see how it will look. You can take any large (5 oz/ 140 g and more) multi-colored ball of yarn, knit it this way, and you'll easily get many unique shawls. Enjoy this very simple shawl.

Materials:

Bernat pop; 5 oz/ 140 g, 280 yds/ 256m approx.
Moonshadow 84008,  1 balls.
Size U.S. 10 (6 mm) knitting needles.
Tapestry needle

level: easy

knitting Terms
k = knit
p = purl
sl =slip stitch
yo = yarn over
k2tog = knit 2 stitches together.

Measurements:

55" (140 cm) long x 15" (38 cm) deep, approx.

Gauge:
15 sts x 27 rows = 4" (10 cm)
in Garter Pattern

Notes:
  • To clear the instructions, the outer end of yarn is called B, and the inner end of yarn is called E.
  • At the beginning of the odd numbered rows, always knit the first stitch with both yarns (B and E).
  • Because I had the small grey ball of yarn from last project, I used it in making this one, but you can use only one ball, the length of the shawl  is appropriate.
  • My shawl just by chance didn't have the same color stripes at any part of it, so don't worry if this happens with you, the shawl will look fun and beautiful anyway.

Instructions:
With B yarn, Cast on 4 sts:
Row 1: k 2, p 2.
Row 2: sl 1, k 1,yo, k 2.
Row 3: k 3, turn yarn forward, sl 1, p 1.

Row 10: sl 1, k 1, yo, k 3, k2tog.

With B yarn, work next 6 rows:
Row 11: k the first st using both yarns, k 4, turn yarn forward, sl 1, p 1.

Row 5: k the first st using both yarns, k to last 2 sts, turn yarn forward, sl 1, p 1.
Row 6: sl 1, k 1, yo, k to last 2 sts, k2tog.

The general 6 rows of yarn B:
Row 1: k the first st using both yarns, k to last 2 sts, turn yarn forward, sl 1, p 1.

Row 2: sl 1, k 1, yo, k to end.

Row 3: k the first st using both yarns, k to last 2 sts, turn yarn forward, sl 1, p 1.

Row 4: sl 1, k 1, yo, k to last 2 sts, k2tog.

Row 5: k the first st using both yarns, k to last 2 sts, turn yarn forward, sl 1, p 1.
Row 6: sl 1, k 1, yo, k to end.

Keep on working these alternate 6 rows patterns till the end of yarn.

Note:
Before you are out of yarn, keep in mind the number of rows for the last stripe, plus make sure you have enough yarn to cast off the shawl. My last 2 stripes actually were of 4 rows, because I've noticed my yarn was not enough.

Dragon Tail Shawl

Hi friends, my year ended joyfully, for I've received my parcel of Bernat Pop yarn after long weeks of waiting.

I made this shawl very quickly, because I was eager to see how easy the work can proceed as all Bernat yarn knitters say. I enjoyed every second, hope you all like what I've designed. It's really easy after learning how to knit five stitches into the yarn over of the previous row.

Materials:

Bernat pop; 5 oz/ 140 g, 280 yds/ 256m approx.
Moonshadow 84008,  2 balls.
Size U.S. 10 (6 mm) circular knitting needle, 36" (90 cm).
Tapestry needle

level: intermediate

knitting Terms
k = knit
p = purl
sl =slip stitch
yo = yarn over
k2togtbl = knit 2 stitches together through back loop.
k3togtbl = knit 3 stitches together through back loop.
k5fo = knit 5 stitches into one stitch: k1, p 1, k1, p 1, k 1 into the same yo of the previous row.

Measurements:
47.5" (121 cm) long x 26" (66 cm) deep.

Gauge:
15 sts x 27 rows = 4" (10 cm)
in Garter Pattern

Note:

  • To get the sequence of colors I prefer, I started knitting the first Bernat pop from inside out, while the second one outside in.
  • I eliminated the grey piece of the second one, because I didn't like the color much.
  • To make the last stripe of scales knitted with one color, I cut out few yards/ meters of previous color.
  • This is the link to how to make five stitches into 1 stitch.

Instructions:

Cast on 4 sts: k 2, p 2, the first row.

start the pattern:

Row 1: sl 1, k 1,yo, k1, yo, k 1.
Row 2: k 1, k5fo, k 2, turn yarn forward, sl 1, p 1.
Row 3: sl 1, k 1, yo, k 8.
Row 4: k 9, turn yarn forward, sl 1, p 1.
Row 5: sl 1, k 1, yo, k 9.
Row 6: k 10, turn yarn forward, sl 1, p 1.
Row 7: sl 1, k 1, yo, k 10.
Row 8: cast off 5 sts, (which means 5 sts decrease out of k 6), k 5, turn yarn forward, sl 1, p 1.

Work rows (1-8) once as the first Scale  of the (Dragon tail Pattern), then work the general pattern:

Dragon tail Pattern 1:

Row 1: sl 1, k, yo, k to last st, yo, k 1.
Row 2: k 1, k5fo, k to last 2 sts, turn yarn forward, sl 1, p 1.

Row 5: repeat row 3.
Row 6: repeat row 4
Row 7: repeat row 3
Row 8: cast off 5 sts, (5 sts decrease out of k 6), k to last 2 sts, turn yarn forward, sl 1, p 1.

Repeat the pattern rows (1-8) 30 more time (or as you want your shawl's length to become).

Repeat row 1 one more time before starting to work the Dragon tail pattern 2.

Dragon tail Pattern 2:

Row 1: k 1, k5fo, k2togtbl, turn.
Row 2: k 7, turn.

Blocked Colors Knitted Scarf

Hello everyone, this is my sixth scarf/shawl in a row. I've been very inspired lately. For this scarf I mixed a multicolored yarn with single colored yarns. The most difficult thing was finding the exact colors in the multicolored one as single colors.

You only need to know how to knit and purl. I wanted to make it using Christmas colors, but I couldn't find any that I liked.

Materials

*Yarn:
- Nako Vizon Anatolia: (100% premium acrylic, 100 g/ 3.53 Oz, 210 m/ 230 yds):
  • color number 80738), 2 skeins (A)
- Nako Vizon:  (100% premium acrylic, 100 g/ 3.53 Oz, 195 m/ 213 yds):
  • Color number 217, Black: 1 skeins (B).
  • Color number 10121, Deep Pink: 1 skein (C).
- Bonbon Classic: (100% acrylic, 100 g/ 3.53 Oz, 200 m/ 219 yds):
  • Color number 98232, Dark Violet: 1 skein (D).
*Knitting Needles: 4.5 mm/ 7 US

*Tapestry Needle

Gauge: 32 sts * 22 rows in 10x10 cm/ 4x4 inch (single rib pattern).

Level: Easy

Measurements:  26 cm / 10 inches X 158 cm / 62 inches

Terms Used:
  • k: knit
  • p: purl

Single Rib Pattern

Row : (Even number of stitches) k 1, p 1 to end of row.

Important Notes:

Note 1: since you are working vertical stripes colors, always twist threads between the stripes, so you attach them  well and don't get holes.

Note 2: I decide the number of rows depending on the color sequences of yarn A, so if you use another yarn brand, the number of rows might differ.

Note 3: all rows are worked in Single Rib Pattern.

Note 4: to make the scarf look neat, start all rows with selvage stitch.

Making the Scarf

Cast on 72 sts; 24 sts with yarn C, and 48 sts with yarn A in any cast on method you are familiar with.

Row 1: work 48 sts with yarn A, 24 sts with yarn C.
Row 2: work 24 sts with yarn C, 48 sts with yarn A.

Making the second color stripes
Cut both yarns and exchange them in binding on positions. The beige yarn instead of yellow yarn and vice versa.

Repeat row 7 and even number row 15 times, then repeat row 7 one more time. Repeat the eyelet rows pattern.

Repeat this this more times, cut the yarns, weave in the threads, make 2 pompoms using the two colors, bind them to each end of the shawl.
