Just One Ball Shawl

Hello everyone, after I finished my Dragon Tail shawl, one Bernat Pop Ball was left from the parcel I received. Loving the speedy work and what came out of it, I've decided to start another project right away. I had this idea in my mind for a while, why not take the two ends of the Bernat Pop Ball yarn, work them together in alternate stripes, and see how it will look. You can take any large (5 oz/ 140 g and more) multi-colored ball of yarn, knit it this way, and you'll easily get many unique shawls. Enjoy this very simple shawl.

Skill level: Easy

Materials:
  • Yarn: Bernat Pop, 5 oz. (140 g), 280 yards (256 m), in the color "Moonshadow" 84008: 1 ball.
  • Knitting needles, size US 10 (6 mm).
  • Tapestry needle.

Measurements: 55" (140 cm) long x 15" (38 cm) deep, approx.

Yardage: 275 - 280 yards (251- 256 m) approx.

Gauge: 15 sts and 27 rows = 4" x 4" (10 cm x 10 cm) in garter pattern.

Knitting terms:

  • k: knit
  • p: purl
  • sl st: slip stitch
  • yo: yarn over
  • k2tog: knit 2 stitches together

Notes:
  • I will be referring to the outer end of the skein as Yarn B, and the inner end as Yarn E.
  • At the beginning of odd numbered rows, always knit the first stitch with both yarns (B and E).
  • I had some leftover gray yarn from a previous project, so in order not to be wasteful, I used it in making this one. You can use only one skein; the final length of the shawl will not differ that much.
  • By pure coincidence, my shawl didn't have stripes of the same color overlapping in any part of it, so don't worry if you get some blocks of solid color as you knit, the shawl will look fun and beautiful anyway.

With yarn B cast on 4 sts:

Row 1: k 2, p 2.

Row 2: sl st 1, k 1, yo, k 2.

Row 3: k 3, bring yarn to the front, sl st 1, p 1.

Row 3: k the first st using both yarns, k to last 2 sts, bring yarn to the front, sl st 1, p 1.

Row 4: sl st 1, k 1, yo, k to last 2 sts, k2tog.

Row 5: k the first st using both yarns, k to last 2 sts, bring yarn to the front, sl st 1, p 1.

Row 6: sl st 1, k 1, yo, k to end.

Repeat the general pattern until the end of yarn. Bind off all sts. Weave in loose ends.

Note:

Before you run out of yarn, keep in mind the number of rows for the last stripe, plus make sure you have enough yarn to bind off the shawl. My last 2 stripes were actually of 4 rows, because I've noticed my yarn was not enough.

Dragon Tail Shawl

Hi friends, my year ended joyfully, because I've finally received my parcel of Bernat Pop yarn after long weeks of waiting. I made this shawl very quickly, because I was eager to see how easy the work can proceed as all Bernat yarn knitters say, and I enjoyed every second. I hope you all like what I've designed, you'll find it's really easy after learning how to knit five stitches into the yarn over of the previous row.

Skill level: Intermediate

  • k5fo: make 5 stitches out of one stitch: k1, p 1, k1, p 1, k 1 into the same yo of the previous row.

  • I wanted the color stripes to be in a certain sequence, so I started knitting the first Bernat pop skein from the inside out, but with the second one I started from the outside in. I also cut out the gray portion of yarn from the second skein, because I didn't like the color.
  • To make sure the scales rows (Dragon tail Pattern 2) are knitted in one color, I cut out the few yards/meters remaining of the previous color once I reached that part.

Blocked Colors Knitted Scarf

Hello everyone, this is my sixth scarf/shawl in a row. I've been very inspired lately. For this scarf I mixed a multicolored yarn with single colored yarns. The most difficult thing was finding the exact colors in the multicolored one as single colors.

You only need to know how to knit and purl. I wanted to make it using Christmas colors, but I couldn't find any that I liked.

Materials

*Yarn:
- Nako Vizon Anatolia: (100% premium acrylic, 100 g/ 3.53 Oz, 210 m/ 230 yds):
  • color number 80738), 2 skeins (A)
- Nako Vizon:  (100% premium acrylic, 100 g/ 3.53 Oz, 195 m/ 213 yds):
  • Color number 217, Black: 1 skeins (B).
  • Color number 10121, Deep Pink: 1 skein (C).
- Bonbon Classic: (100% acrylic, 100 g/ 3.53 Oz, 200 m/ 219 yds):
  • Color number 98232, Dark Violet: 1 skein (D).
*Knitting Needles: 4.5 mm/ 7 US

*Tapestry Needle

Gauge: 32 sts * 22 rows in 10x10 cm/ 4x4 inch (single rib pattern).

Level: Easy

Measurements:  26 cm / 10 inches X 158 cm / 62 inches

Terms Used:

Single Rib Pattern

Row : (Even number of stitches) k 1, p 1 to end of row.

Important Notes:

Note 1: since you are working vertical stripes colors, always twist threads between the stripes, so you attach them  well and don't get holes.

Note 2: I decide the number of rows depending on the color sequences of yarn A, so if you use another yarn brand, the number of rows might differ.

Note 3: all rows are worked in Single Rib Pattern.

Note 4: to make the scarf look neat, start all rows with selvage stitch.
